Fisherman's cottage near Zahrádek between Holanské rybníky #2747

The cottage U Ledňáčka is situated in the marshes near the Bobří brook in the middle of the meadows and forests around the Holanské ponds and under the Vlhošt' hill. At night you will be disturbed only by the hooting of owls, during the day by the cry of herons. If you keep quiet, you will see a kingfisher hunting over the water.

The capacity of the cottage is 6 beds (one double bed and two bunk beds in the second room designed in the spirit of a cabin on a fishing boat). Pillows and duvets are provided on all beds (weak - for warmer seasons). Please bring your own bed linen or sleeping bags. There are two 200 x 80 cm mattresses on the double bed.

The cottage has a flush toilet, sink and a wood-burning stove with hot water and shower. The water has to be drawn from the well at the cottage by a pump into a 220 litre barrel on the roof, from where it then flows by gravity. The water is utilitarian, most of it is seepage from the stream and it visited several ponds on the way to us. We regularly treat the water with chlorine. The wastewater ends up in an organic treatment plant.

Electricity and lighting of the whole cottage is solved through a 12 V photovoltaic circuit. You can recharge your mobile phone from two USB-A sockets. Those who take a voltage converter to the 12 V car socket can also charge a laptop.

For preparing food or water for coffee/tea and for cold days, the cottage has a wood-burning stove with a hot plate. The equipment also includes pots, plates, frying pan as well as cutlery and knives. Outside, there is a fire pit and outdoor seating under a century-old willow tree. There is also a pleasant seating area on the covered terrace above the Beaver Creek with a view of the Vlhošt' hill. There is also a hiking gas stove with a 7/16" screw valve. Bring your own gas bottle. There is a barrel buried under the hut - it serves as a food cellar.

The surrounding land is nearly 6,000 feet and is all planted with Japanese poplars. It is surrounded by the dammed Beaver Creek, which flowed through several ponds on the way here. The water is pleasantly warm, you can swim right next to the cottage (the least mud on the bottom is at the branch of the water dam).

From the cottage it is a short walk to a number of castles in the area (Vítkovec, Rybnov, Hostíkovic). There is a system of Holanské Ponds with famous film locations (the film Hastrman, the sci-fi series European Tribes). You can visit the rocky valley of Peklo u Zahrádek (in spring for the ivy), Máchovo jezero, Bezděz or Ronov Castle.

The cottage is in a completely remote location off the beaten track. Parking is available 300 meters from the cottage, you can bring your belongings on the carriage, which is ready under the cottage. If you have a car suitable for off-road (the road is overgrown with blackberries), you can drive through the meadow on a dirt road practically to the cottage.
